William was born in1844 in Pakenham, Ontario and died in 1914 (age 70). He founded the Almonte Gazette in 1867
then moved to B. C. in 1884 where he purchased the Victoria Times (managing editor and
stockholder. He was appointed a Senator in 1887 and in 1902 he was appointed Minister
without portfolio in Sir Wilfred Laurier's Cabinet; in 1906 Minister of Internal Revenue; and
increased his portfolio in 1907 to include Inland Revenue.
William #2 married Everina Bond (Eva) of Beckwith Township (Carlton Place), Ontario on
Jan. 11, 1869 in St. Paul's Church, Almonte. They did not have children.
Everina was born in 1846 and died in 1913 (age 67), in Victoria, B. C.
