Robert was a rather adventuresome fellow who set off on foot from Almonte , for Ironwood, Michigan.   He remained there for several years and became involved in supplying lumber for the mines.   During this time he married Jane Chapman, from Ramsay, and their first child was born in Ironwood.   After a few years, having done very well

financially in the lumber and mining business, he and his family moved to Sault Ste. Marie where he continued to be

involved in the mining industry.   By the time he moved to St. Catherines, Ont., in 1912, he was financially secure and

had retired.   He had some interest in real estate in his latter years in St. Catherines where he died in 1927.
