Alxander and his family left on the "Earl of Buckinghamshire" from Greenock, Scotland, on
Firth of Clyde, in northwest of Renfrewshire on April 29, 1821 and arrived in Quebec City on
June 16 after a trip totalling 42 days.   The ship's captain was Thomas Johnson.   Alexander
was 39 and his wife 40 when they left Scotland for their newlife in Canada.   Their male
children were 13 & 1/2, 12, 10, 7, 3 and 1/2 and their female children 6 and 7.
"The Paisley Townhead Emigration Society" sponsored the Alexander Bain family and the
government paid a "Settlement Advance" to Alexander on August 1, 1821.   They gave each
settler 100 acres of land and 10 pounds cash.
Family lore credits Alexander with having the first cow and horse in Lanark County.

Scottish Immigration 1815-1834, call number was R325.71 ON 8 SE.
The settlers searched out the property they wanted and then returned to have their claim
registered.   The date they actually registered their claim is in the DATE OF LOCATION.   The
Settler number was an apparently arbitrary number assigned to each household head.
